  The Illinois House passed House Bill 312 in March of 2005 and by the Illinois Senate in May of 2005. It was signed into law on August 5, 2005, thus expanding Holocaust and genocide education for Illinois elementary and high school students. It states that all public elementary and high schools, in addition to learning about the Nazi atrocities of the 20th century, should have a unit covering genocide throughout the world, including incidents in Armenia and Ukraine, and recent incidents in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Sudan. The State of Illinois has mandated that the study of genocides be taught to all students K-12.
